Starbooks

Star BOOKSPOSTED: September 25, 2024

I’m excited to share some fantastic news about our 8th-grade students' ongoing reading initiative! Each month, they will be reading a book from different genres - this past month was either a BIOGRAPHY or AUTOBIOGRAPHY, followed by a class assignment and a Library Table Talk session. These guided discussions allow students to dive deep into the characters, plots, and themes of the books they've read. After each Table Talk, their peers cast their votes to select the STARBOOK of the month.

The STARBOOK winners receive a Gold Star sticker on their book, and the student is entered into a drawing for a chance to win a special prize – a set of books or a pair of funky Crocs! The Crocs tie into our discussions about “walking a mile in the character’s shoes,” which has been a fun and creative way to encourage thoughtful engagement with the material.

Please join me in congratulating students on their accomplishments! Their enthusiasm and dedication are inspiring, and I'm confident that they’ll continue to thrive as they explore new genres and stories. Their ELA teachers were notified & students can collect their books next week during their library circulation time.

FYI: October for 8th grade is a choice of Mystery or Horror. (7th grade will be reading Science Fiction/ Fantasy).

Thank you to all who help us foster a love for reading in our students!
