Serving on the Multilingual Proficiency Certification team and Inclusivity Strategic Planning team, Noemi Ponce, Spanish and Heritage Language Teacher, organized an evening for students, families, and community to gather at the Wyndham Hotel to experience a Heritage III student project called VOCES (voices).
It was an Art Exhibit with the theme: The Experiences of Latinos in America.
Noemi Ponce explained, “We discussed what these students, as young Latinos, wanted to show others about their lived experiences, and they came up with four central themes: Daily Fears, Struggles, Stereotypes, & Culture Appreciation.”
Students either worked in groups or on their own. There were several poems, short stories, paintings, photography, and videos - all depicting one of these central themes.
Students hosted the art exhibit for family, friends, and the community.
Muchas gracias Noemi Ponce and all Heritage III students for an incredibly powerful representation of the work you are exploring. It was both beautiful and educational. A well-deserved applause for your strength, vulnerability, honesty, and passion to share this project with the world!
