Warsaw Community Schools
Board of Trustees – Regular Meeting Recap

March 31, 2025

The Warsaw Community Schools Board of Trustees met on Monday, March 31, to celebrate student success, honor impactful community partnerships, and hear updates on meaningful programs across the district. The evening reflected WCS’s continued focus on innovation, service and hands-on learning.

Board Spotlight: Go Baby Go!

The evening began with a special recognition of Abbi Richcreek, who was honored for receiving the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) State Middle School Teacher of the Year award.

In addition to her personal award, Abbi introduced this year’s Go Baby Go! many community partners - several have been with the program since inception (seven years).

Since inception, Go Baby Go! has customized 27 ride-on cars for children with physical impairments, providing them with the gift of mobility and independence. This year, four more cars are being customized by students at Edgewood Middle School under the guidance of community mentors, who invest approximately 14 hours across six to seven after-school sessions each year.

Community Spotlight: Partners in STEM Education

Derek Pike introduced two of WCS’s outstanding community partners whose continued collaboration strengthens experiential learning across the district. The board recognized:

  • Amanda Heltzel of the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District

  • Grace St. Clair of the Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams

Both organizations provide invaluable STEM opportunities for WCS students both on and off campus. The Lilly Center’s 27 classroom aquariums are part of two immersive programs—Classroom Lake Experience and Lake in the Library—that integrate environmental science into everyday learning. Grace also supports curriculum design and hands-on STEM engagement throughout the year on and off-site.

Amanda’s work includes 6th grade rafting trips, water testing and getting students directly into local ecosystems with waders to explore lakes and streams. She also organizes Master Naturalists who help to provide STEM education as well. WCS is grateful for both Amanda & Grace and for their dedication—especially from the five STEM-certified buildings within the district.
