CORE CURRICULUM

English 9 

English 9, an integrated English course based on the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts in Grades 9-10, is a study of language, literature, composition, and oral communication, focusing on literature within an appropriate level of complexity for this grade band.

English 10, an integrated English course based on the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts in Grades 9- 10, is a study of language, literature, composition, and oral communication, focusing on literature with an appropriate level of complexity for this grade band.

English 11 

English 11, an integrated English course based on the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts in Grades 11-12, is a study of language, American literature, composition, and oral communication focusing on literature with an appropriate level of complexity. Students seeking college credit may select English 11AP.

English 12 

WCHS offers a variety of English 12 options that meet the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts for Grades 11- 12. Students may choose to focus on World Literature or British Literature, or they may choose to get college credit through our AP and IU English programs.

ELECTIVES

The WCHS English/Language Arts department offers a variety of electives which not only enrich and encourage students’ love of language and literature but also prepare them for what awaits them in their future academic and occupational pursuits. For general elective credit, students can select Journalism, Publications (newspaper and yearbook), Creative Writing, Film Literature, or Biblical Literature, and they can earn college credits in the Dual-Credit Speech Communication course.
