Mrs. Koontz wanted you all to know:
For all my awesome Jefferson parents and students—
This is so difficult to tell you.... After 11 years as a crossing guard, this school year will be my last one.
I didn't make this decision lightly. In fact, it was probably one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. I've absolutely loved my time at Jefferson! I started out as a parent volunteer who loved kids and saw a need to keep them safe. Now, 11 years later and an employee, I still have the same heart for kids. But I've also learned and grown to where being a crossing guard has become more of a ministry than a job. My love for God has become part of what I do everyday as I help, encourage and protect you and anyone who uses the crosswalk.
I'm not exactly sure what God has for me next. My kids are grown, so it could be traveling more with my hubby Steve. I also feel a tug towards volunteering with the elderly. But no matter what's next, I do know that it's time now to turn the page and begin another chapter.
Thank you, to all of you! YOU are the reason Jefferson is the special place it is! I can't tell you how many times you have brought me joy through a hug, a smile, a gift or a wave out your car window, often coming on those days when I needed it most! I will miss you all!! ❤ Mrs. Koontz
