New to the 2021-22 staff at Jefferson is Mrs. Maria Vega, who will be stepping into the role of Parent Liaison. Prior to Jefferson, Mrs. Vega's involvement in education was as a paraprofessional at Eisenhower Elementary and more recently as a parent liaison at Warsaw Community High School.
You may be asking yourself, "What exactly is a parent liaison?"
As described by Mr. Wall: "The parent liaison facilitates communication between Jefferson Elementary and minority-language families. She will help translate newsletters, paperwork, and important school documents. Mrs. Vega will work closely with families to help connect the school and family community. She also works closely with the English Language teacher and with students in the classroom. Mrs. Vega has a critical role in helping ensure all students and families feel welcome and supported at Jefferson."
Mrs. Vega has a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. She and her husband, Juan, are from Colombia, have been married for twelve years, and have two girls, Nadine (9) and Mila (5). Mrs. Vega's husband is an orthopedic surgeon and works at Johnson & Johnson, which is what brought their family to the area seven years ago.
When asked about why she got into education, Mrs. Vega stated, "My dad is a professor, so I grew up watching him being fulfilled and happy, feeling proud of his students, receiving lots of love and also being challenged! It was very inspiring!"
Mrs. Vega's interests include a love of traveling, singing, going to concerts, and "actually anything involving music!"
Welcome, Mrs. Vega! We can't wait to get to know you and for you to know and experience the Jefferson community.
