Please join us in thanking all who DAILY give their time & talents to Food & Nutritional Services. Each year, WCS recognizes the incredible work of our Food Service Team, but this past year brought a deeper level of appreciation when they answered the call to feed our community in ways nobody could have ever imagined.
Since schools closed on Friday, March 13th, 2020, the Warsaw Community Schools' Food & Nutrition services team of 66 incredible individuals remained on the frontline feeding children. A team was assembled over that very first weekend and meals were ready for distribution on Monday, March 16th. Teams centralized to pack meals, work with the Transportation Department, deliver meals, and be a constant source of hope and encouragement - not just nutrition. Often, children and parents coming to pick up their meals got the added bonus of seeing a familiar friendly face; this kind gesture was not lost on our community. Several local restaurants also stepped forward to lend a hand. It truly was a collaborative effort to evaluate how free & healthy meals could most effectively reach the maximum number of children in our community - and they accomplished their goal!
Marci Franks, Director of Food & Nutrition Services added, “With the support of every department in our district, administrators, and community volunteers we were also able to continue providing nourishment to children through the summer months. WCS food service teams rallied for the cause because at the core of their very being, they want to make sure our students are taken care of. We share a common purpose and a common vision with all of WCS and our community to make that happen. That keeps us strong.”
When school opened in August 2020, the logistics of serving meals changed completely with trying to maintain social distance and wear masks while still preparing hot meals. Reinventing how to serve meals while keeping students and staff safe required creativity, innovation, and commitment to meet the needs of students. Again - they accomplished their goal!
Warsaw Community Schools would like to thank Marci Franks, Stacie Light (Assistant Director), and all the amazing people who make up the indomitable team of Food & Nutrition Service Professionals. Their dedication and unwavering commitment to the health & safety of our students is recognized, celebrated, and forever embedded in our 2020 WCS historic journey.
